Memorial service honors fallen Iowa National Guard sergeant
About 500 people attended the funeral for Paul Fisher of the Iowa Army National Guard. Durland, who worked with Fisher, described him as unflappable and with a wicked sense of humor. Fisher's widow Karen wrote that he made her stronger and that they completed each other. The service included bagpipes, songs, and a Guard salute. Fisher was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Lt. Col. Allen Meyer praised his service in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Contact details provided.

Palestinian militants ready to halt attacks if Israel pauses ops
Palestinian groups are willing to stop suicide bombings and other attacks if Israel halts operations in the West Bank and Gaza, a top official said. Israel has not committed to the cease fire terms, while an Islamic leader rejects a complete halt. A truce could revive the U S backed road map as Ahmed Qureia seeks unity among factions including Hamas and Islamic Jihad ahead of a possible summit with Ariel Sharon.
