Linn social services workers seek to drop AFSCME union
Professional employees of the Iowa Department of Social Services file decertification petitions with PERB to form Iowa United Professionals. Barbara Adams says 540 of 1,700 workers signed to end AFSCME representation, though AFSCME questions signatures and likely majority support. The effort follows DSS reorganization that cut about 226 statewide positions. If IUP wins, they would bargain for next year’s contract with an election possibly set in early January.

Lawyer Objections Prompt Easing of Jail Search Rules
In Davenport Scott County officials agreed to modify rules requiring attorneys to be searched before visiting jail clients.
