C Ford and Tina Lampe list their southeast Cedar Rapids home in early October hoping for buyers. They note longer market times with Cedar Rapids at about 70 days and Iowa City Coralville around 107 days, reflecting slower activity across the Corridor and state.
Iowa City area housing shows slower sales yet continued movement. Realtors note inventory rises while the typical list to sale price drops from 96 to 94 percent. The average sale price for the first ten months rises to 180441 from 175805, with 1736 single family homes sold.
MidAmerica Housing Partnership announces further job cuts and a management agreement with Four Oaks to oversee nearly 400 Cedar Rapids area affordable homes after the Cedar Valley Townhomes sale failed. Doug Wagner says MAHP seeks solutions to stabilize finances and keep housing affordable by year end 2006.
The Iowa City school board voted 7-0 to close overcrowded West High School to new enrollments starting next fall. First time district entrants will be assigned to City High on the east side. West High enrolls 1,838 this year, above its 1,800 capacity, while City High runs under capacity with 1,353 of 1,600. Overall district enrollment nears 11,300.
Cedar Rapids Westdale Mall is now under a court appointed receiver after owner H N W Associates fell behind on payments. Tom Slattery Jr. of Heritage Property Management will keep the mall open with minimal tenant impact and may seek a sheriff sale within three months to satisfy the mortgage deficiency.
