Riverfront project sails ahead

Ground breaks early next month for an eight story 150000 square foot office building named the Great America Building at First Street and Sixth Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids. 3001 Corp a partnership of 2001 Development Corp and Ryan Companies USA Inc reports half the space leased with Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield consolidating Cedar Rapids offices on the first floor. Construction aims for completion in November 1998 with a 12 month lease up expected after opening. OPN Architects designed the building and plaza and the project links with riverfront improvements between Fifth and Eighth avenues.

Acupuncturists in Iowa City face legal clash over statute

Iowa City acupuncturists Laura Christensen and Kirk Stephan face action for practicing without Iowa medical statute approval. Jack Evans, president and CEO of The Hall-Perrine Foundation in Cedar Rapids, has been elected to a three year term on the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago board of directors. Evans will begin January 1 with a $200 per meeting and a $2,000 annual retainer, replacing Thomas Dorr. He also serves on multiple local boards and farms, and emphasizes representing Iowans.
