A man accused of sexually assaulting two 13 year olds may be hidden behind a screen as they testify. A motion to shield the witnesses was granted to protect their privacy during proceedings. The report appears on page 4A alongside other regional and national news briefs.
A 700 acre Cedar County tract once tagged for a world scale hog plant reportedly sold to Dr Gordon Kruger a Normal Illinois veterinarian. IBP confirmed a sale but did not identify the buyer while Cedar County sources cite price per acre and total figures ranging from 1.1 to 1.26 million dollars with Kruger expanding his regional land holdings.
Delhi officials investigate a fatal rural fire that killed 87 year old Mathew Malone at the Roger and Debbie Stumma residence northwest of the Delaware County Care Facility. Fire departments battled the blaze from about 2:26 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and the two story farmhouse and contents were destroyed. Services are pending.
Jason Feuerhelm fifteen testified in Linn Juvenile Court that he loaded and cocked a sawed off shotgun to scare his older brother Jamie after years of abuse and theft. He said the gun fired when Jamie pulled his leg as he fell. He pleaded guilty to possessing a sawed off shotgun and assault with bodily injury, and will be sentenced after a background report. Jamie, nineteen, was critically injured but has recovered. The judge will consider recommendations from the youth, his attorney, and court officer.
A 24 year old Cedar Rapids woman, Karen J. Jacobson, pleaded guilty in Linn District Court to assault with intent to commit sexual abuse of a 13 year old boy. She had been charged with third degree sexual abuse for allegedly having sexual intercourse with the boy at a party hosted by her sister on Sept 28. She faces up to two years in prison and a $5,000 fine and is to be sentenced Jan 6.
