Longtime Iowa superintendent Ludwig recalled

Ludwig, longtime school superintendent, served 16 years in that role and previously led Oxford and Sharon districts. He is survived by his wife Alice Heim, two sons in Iowa City, three daughters including a Beverly Kentucky missionary and two others, and four sisters. Funeral services are Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Tiffin Methodist Church. His body lies at Beckman Funeral Home in Iowa City.

German Crash On Czech Soil

Prague disclosed that two West German fighter bombers missing since October 22 crashed on Czech soil and both pilots survived. The statement protested repeated violations of Czechoslovak air space and Prague demanded compensation for the damage. No word on injuries or pilots' locations.

Third Time Disaster Strikes Albany Farmer

W. H. Hatfield, 59, a Albany Georgia farmer, has endured three disasters over 25 years. A logging accident cost him his left leg, a welding mishap cost him his left eye, and a recent corn combine accident severed his left hand as he recovered Friday.

Union Ready To Resume Wilson Talks In Cedar Rapids

The United Packinghouse Workers say they will resume negotiations with Wilson and Company on 24 hours notice. Wilson responds with two conditions: guaranteed hours and no sit down strikes, plus reasonable contract proposals. Work halted at Cedar Rapids plant Oct. 30 with a strike called Nov. 3 and the last contract ending Aug. 31.

Izvestia reports racketeering and kickbacks in state owned stores. Store manager V A Getmans from Ukraine describes deals with Soviet suppliers, yielding extra goods at reduced prices sold for profit. Highway Unit Chairman Reports Iowa Road Plans and Funding

Iowa Good Roads Association members heard Highway Commission Chairman Robert Brice describe statewide highway scheduling and the sufficiency rating study to fix system bugs. He cited maintenance cost studies, a three-division department reform, vehicle size standardization, and a state road program at risk if gas tax and vehicle fees are altered. Linn County coroner reports 26 year old Charles Henry Bammert II of 1214 Fifteenth Street SE Cedar Rapids took poison Friday night and died later at St Luke’s Hospital. He was born May 12, 1933 and married to Clarice Kitts on July 21 1956. Survived by wife son mother two sisters and two brothers all of Cedar Rapids. Genevieve Barnett aged 69 died Friday at her sister's home in Cedar Rapids. Born September 13, 1875 at Riverside she moved to Cedar Rapids in 1915 and belonged to St Patrick's church and St Theresa's club. A brother and six sisters survive. husband John Barnett died in 1945. Courthouse finds Parachute Equipment on Center Point Farm

A weather bureau parachute and equipment box were found on the Ralph Duncan farm north of Center Point and reported to the Linn sheriff by Jeanette Sprotson. Floyd L. Greenlee, who died November 2, named his wife Agnes E. as heir and executrix.

Seaborg Wins AEC Enrico Fermi Award for 1959

Dr. Glenn T. Seaborg, nuclear chemist and UC Berkeley chancellor, is chosen for the Atomic Energy Commission’s Enrico Fermi award worth 50 thousand dollars. The citation honors discoveries of plutonium and other elements and leadership in nuclear chemistry and atomic energy. The presentation is set for December 2 at the commission’s Germantown, Maryland headquarters.
