A man threatened to jump from a Wilson Avenue overpass onto I 380 near Cedar Rapids last night. Cedar Rapids police and firefighters halted traffic and used a ladder rig to block the span while handcuffing him to a fence. Spectators frustrated officers as they worked to defuse the crisis around 11:30 p.m.

A two year study of 8 965 youths by the Josephson Institute of Ethics reports widespread ethical decline. One in three high school students admit stealing from stores or relatives, and majorities lie to parents or on job applications.
A study shows one third of high school students shoplift and lie to get jobs, 61 percent cheat on tests, 20 percent admit drunk driving, and 40 percent have sex without a condom, with 40 percent admitting lying on some survey items. College students admit stealing and cheating less, but lie on applications at similar rates. Two Cedar Rapidians note the results aren’t surprising.
