Iowa State researchers flag soybean crop rotation and root facts
Iowa State soil scientists reported at the ASA in New Orleans that soybeans should not follow red clover for two consecutive years due to the soybean stem rot fungus carried by red clover. They advise side-dressing soybeans to target the topsoil where roots concentrate and warn against deep cultivator use that injures lateral roots. A student, Charles L. Prior, will be honored as the 1968 ASA essay winner.
