PERB upholds Marion officers exoneration in 1981 fair case

The Public Employment Relations Board reaffirmed a hearing officer ruling that Marion police union officers Mike DeLaMater and Jim Weilenhagen violated no public employee laws when they discouraged reserve and private officers from working at the 1981 Fair on the Square. A related Linn County Court case on the same matter moves forward with final briefs due Friday. The ruling, which avoids implying city sanction, leaves open whether the city will appeal while noting the Chamber of Commerce rather than the city hired security for the event.
