Chicago dispatch notes that thirty years ago the first Diesel powered streamlined train began the end of the Age of Steam. The three car Zephyr on the Burlington Route between Lincoln Nebraska and Kansas City Missouri used a 660 horsepower Diesel electric locomotive and cost $200 000.
