The westbound driver Joe Romek 24 from rural route two Mount Vernon was with Woodrow Hartley 17 at the same address. Glenn Swift 42 of Mount Vernon was alone in the eastbound car. Hartley suffered a cut on one hand.
Swift sustained gashes above the eye and on the nose while Romek was unharmed. Both men were brought to Cedar Rapids for treatment with Swift later taken to Mercy hospital. Deputy Sheriff Larry Condon investigated the crash.

Unofficial returns from most precincts place Senator Bronson Cutting ahead of Rep. Dennis Chavez by about 1 275 votes for re election. AP tabulations show Cutting leading 74 643 to 73 368 with roughly 3 000 absentee ballots still to be counted, mostly from Cutting strong districts.
Evalyn Knapp, film actress and former Follies beauty, wed George Snyder, film executive, in Santa Barbara. The couple returned to Los Angeles after the ceremony.
