Washington AP A 1938 government corn loan rate of about 47 cents a bushel was indicated as the crop reporting board estimated the corn yield at 2.4809 billion bushels, with last year’s production at 2.645 billion and the 1927-36 average at 2.306 billion. Man Pushing Coal Cart Struck By Auto in Cedar Rapids
Sam Steele, 56, of 826 Tenth Avenue SW, was in fair condition at St Luke's hospital after a 6 p.m. collision on Sixteenth Avenue between Eleventh and Twelfth Streets SW. Steele, pushing a coal cart, was hit by a car driven by Jack Pew, 1255 Fourth Avenue SE, who said he did not see Steele until it was too late. Steele suffered a compound fracture of the right leg, a fracture of the right arm, a scalp abrasion, hip injury and possible internal injuries. Pew reported the incident and was not detained.
