Utility wins rate settlement for MidAmerican gas
Iowa regulators approve a settlement raising MidAmerican Energy natural gas revenues by 17.74 million dollars per year. East zone rates rise 6.8 percent, West 2.7 percent, with overall rates up four tenths of a percent plus a prior 2.2 percent interim increase. The deal ends one third of the 1995 merger caused imbalance, requires a two-year cap on further increases, and allocates 4.3 million for cleaning up former manufactured gas plants. Senior VP Todd Raba says balancing will proceed in two rate cases, not three, and customers will feel the effect only on delivery costs, not gas itself.
