Cedar Rapids resident Steven Douglas Clark, 22, the 43rd American fatality in Desert Shield, died in Saudi Arabia when his 5 ton truck pinned between two vehicles during a recovery operation. A Prairie High School graduate, he had been in Saudi Arabia a month and was to be discharged in April. He left the cab to disconnect a chain after freeing a stuck truck. the 5 ton rolled back, pinning him. The Army investigates. He is survived by his parents, Edgar and Nancy Clark, and siblings Brad and Cindy. Brad Clark urged action to end the conflict.
U S officials briefing President Bush outlined a worst case in which Iraqi use of anthrax and botulin toxin could prompt Israel to strike Baghdad with nuclear retaliation.
