Voters Approve Johnson County Jail Bond While City Narrowly Rejects Tenant Law

In Eastern Iowa Tuesday, a 1.9 million Johnson County jail and sheriff office bond passed countywide 9,722 to 3,146 amid heavy turnout. Sheriff Gary Hughes called it essential as the total package reached about 6.5 million with a parking ramp. Iowa City approved the jail but rejected a tenant landlord ordinance 4,636 to 5,775, as critics warned of higher rents and constitutionality concerns. Blizzard Paralyzes West Iowa As Storm Hits Plains
