Captain Eddie Rickenbacker crossed from Burbank to Newark in 12 hours 4 minutes aboard a twin-motored transport, exceeding his prior record with only one refueling stop at Kansas City. The flight averaged 215 mph over 2,600 miles with sub stratosphere speeds and a crowd cheering at the airport.
Peace officers from two Iowa counties and vigilant helpers massed near Cresco to capture George Baby Face Nelson after Ruben Perau, a captured robber, claimed Nelson was in the area.
