NASA and university researchers report a treasure trove of data from the rare Siding Spring flyby near Mars. Instruments led by Don Garnett and Jasper Halekas captured atmospheric chemistry changes and meteor shower effects as the comet passed within 87 000 miles, avoiding destruction by briefly silencing gear.
