Recycling potential found in large-scale trash search
A cleanup effort recovered 1,340 pounds of items from a search in Marion revealing about 35 percent by volume and 25 percent by weight recyclable material. Much of the recyclable portion was dirty and mixed with garbage, limiting actual recycling. If findings apply countywide, 400 to 500 pounds per ton could be recycled, saving fees. The operation yielded cans, bottles, toys, clothing, a UNO game, a model car, and other items.
