Tax plan could shrink mortgage benefits for homeowners
Washington AP says a presidential tax reform panel proposes eliminating the mortgage interest deduction and replacing it with a 15 percent credit on interest paid. The change would affect 35.8 million taxpayers and could lower home values, with transition rules giving five years before full adoption.
