Fiery Linn crash injures Steven Britcher in head-on crash
Steven Britcher, 24, of 3367 Center Point Road NE, was reported in fair condition with head injuries at St. Luke's Hospital after a late Wednesday night two car crash on Highway 218 north of Swisher. Britcher, who was traveling on the shoulder, swerved into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Frank J. Wilkins, 34, of Burlington. Britcher was later charged with drunk driving and driving left of center. Wilkins and a passenger, Steven P. Matlock, were uninjured as investigators noted the point of impact could have been fatal for Wilkins. Emergency crews from Linn and Johnson counties, the Iowa Highway Patrol, and Ely Fire Department responded.
