Cedar Rapids library levy vote失败 leaves uncertain future
Cedar Rapids voters rejected a 4 cent per thousand levy to fund library operations 54.92 to 45.08 percent. Only nine of 48 precincts supported the measure all on the east side and most absentee ballots were against it. Library board president Joe Lock says the panel will reconsider strategy to fit citizen funding and may cut hours from the 68 hour seven day operation. Mayor Ron Corbett notes a long history of difficulty securing tax support for libraries in the city.
