The Iowa salary table shows Kirk Ferentz at 3.825 million and Fred Hoiberg at 1.85 million leading a top 20 list. ISU and UI officials fill most positions with private funds boosting several salaries including Lisa Bluder and Gary Barta. Gov Branstad earned 130 thousand in fiscal 2014.
The top five earners included Kirk Ferentz $3.825 million and Fred Hoiberg $1.85 million, with Paul Rhoads and Fran McCaffery also among the top salaries. Iowa had 59,859 employees with a $3.14 billion payroll, and the Regents system dominates state staffing. There were 32,840 women and 27,017 men employed.
The University of Iowa graduate student union COGS asked for increased pay, full tuition scholarships, and fee reimbursements as it began negotiations for a 2015 2017 contract. Jeannette Gabriel said fees undermine prior gains while advocating equal tuition waivers for all bargaining unit members and new grants for graduate students.
Former Iowa House member Kurt Swaim of Bloomfield is named acting state public defender replacing Sam Langholz who moves to oversee the administrative law judges in the Department of Inspections and Appeals. Langholz was Iowa public defender since 2010 and confirmed in 2012. The office oversees indigent defense for roughly 200 employees in 18 offices.
