Mayor-elect Ron Corbett signals focus on choosing a city manager after Cedar Rapids results. Brian Fagan and P T Larson are noted in official Linn County records as part of the transition and staffing considerations. The Linn County Auditor's Office provided the source data.
Ron Corbett defeated City Council member Brian Fagan by 26.6 points, 62.3 to 35.7, winning 44 of 47 precincts. He pledged quick council leadership reassertion and a 90 day review of City Manager Jim Prosser. Fagan called the result hard but said he acted rightly for flood recovery over 16 months.
In Iowa City three candidates Susan Mims Terry Dickens and Connie Champion were elected to the seven member council amid low turnout. They will be seated in January and face a tight budget as the city contends with recession conditions.
The Iowa City council plans to tackle city manager and public safety concerns early next year. Violence in the southeast side and downtown remains a top item, with a total of 4,682 people referenced in city notes.
Chuck Swore returns to the City Council after a two year hiatus as Kris Gulick wins re election in District 3. Four candidates advance to Dec 1 runoffs with Pat Shey vs Jerry McGrane in District 3 and Aaron Saylor vs Don Karr for one of two at large seats. Swore is a 66 year old retired Acme Electric executive.
In 2006 and 2007 Cedar Rapids council results secured the Westside District 4 seat before a later council shift. The report notes the districts, incumbents, and outcome changes across those two years.
Mary Kathryn Moravek, 51, Mechanicsville, faces extortion charges after meeting an undercover officer to exchange 30,000 from David Stanley and Iowans for Tax Relief for her silence about alleged illegal campaign contributions. She claims to have witnessed years of improper funding and planned an ethics board complaint against lobbyist Robbie Robinson.
