Judge Charles Penningroth gave a suspended sentence up to seven years at the reformatory on condition Kohl stays out of trouble pays court costs and makes restitution by November 21 for a false twenty dollar check cashed in Cedar Rapids on October 25.
Maurice Curry died October fifteenth leaving an estate split equally among his children Jane Currell Elizabeth Elwood and James Curry Currell named executrix without bond. A second will for Joseph Novotny who died October twenty sixth leaves six equal shares to Marie Pohorsky Tillie Topinka Charles Novotny John Novotony and Charlene Novotony with the remaining share to Ernest Zeman and Robert Zeman Executors without bond are Charles Novotny and Tillie Topinka.

Civilians in Batohon village southeast Luzon captured Noboru Kinoshita, a Japanese sailor living in the jungle unaware the war had ended ten years earlier. He said his ship was sunk by American planes in 1944, swam ashore, and joined Japanese land forces before hiding to avoid capture.

Jesse Sickles a widow of 941 N Street SW died at University Hospitals in Iowa City Wednesday morning. Her remains will be moved to Lansing for services Saturday at 2 p.m.
Services for Albert Matchett a carpenter and Cedar Rapids resident of 42 years who died on Wednesday after a long illness will be held. Burial details and contributions are to be announced by the family.
Nassau County authorities dispute a 20 minute gap between shots and the screams in the fatal Woodward case. Detective Chief Pinell says the shots and screams were almost simultaneous, countering a New York Post report. District Attorney Gulotta maintains the slaying appears accidental and notes no new evidence changing that view.

Washington dispatch reports a secret 2 to 1 joint chiefs vote to assign medium range guided missiles to the air force. Army officers warn that even a 1,500 mile limit would be unacceptable as missiles target air bases, communications and troop reinforcements while the air force seeks to rely on long range missiles for strategic bombing.
Western Washington and British Columbia endured one of the worst rainstorms, with 80 mph winds in a new storm across floodlands. Evacuations rose as rivers climbed, sandbag crews worked, and damage in British Columbia reached about five million dollars while coastal rescues continued.

Mrs Jimmie K Sujan Navajo wife of a Walker AFB sergeant traveled to northwest Arizona to visit her father. She sent a telegram with her arrival time but endured difficult reservation roads. After days she and her husband reached a trading post where a trader handed back the telegram to deliver to her father.
Prof. Robert Turnbull of the University of Iowa was elected president of the Iowa Philosophical Society at its Coe college campus meeting. Prof. Edwin T. Settle of Coe was reelected secretary-treasurer. About 50 members attended and voted to hold the next meeting at the University of Iowa. Six papers were presented and two addresses given by Dr. Newton P. Stallknecht of Indiana University.
