McKinley nursed a 7 6 lead in a tense finish to upset Roosevelt by marching 50 yards in the closing minutes. Eldan Kanellis and Ronnie Myers led McKinley ground attack as Roosevelt struggled to convert in the single wing.
The season ends with Franklin versus Tipton at Hill Park starting 7 45. Wilson faces West Waterloo at West High Stadium in Waterloo.

Anamosa Blue Raiders beat Monticello 19 to 2 in a Wamac clash, moving to 5-1 in league play. Key backs Dick Purcell Bob Williams and Kurt McKinstry sparked the offense as Monticello’s defense faced multiple turnovers and four interceptions aided by standout special teams plays.
Grundy Center sprinted to its seventh straight victory by routing Winton 21 to 0. Keith Holeman accounted for all three touchdowns with a five yard run, a 25 yard pass to Delbert Kell, and a 10 yard TD run. Kell kicked three extra points, finishing 13 of 16 on PATs. Don Dittmer starred on defense.
Sammy Peters of Tama won a close decision over Bert Daly of Des Moines in the feature bout of an eight fight amateur card. Jim Ampey of Cedar Rapids knocked out Winky Bidwell of Winterset in the second round, the card’s only KO. The Dysart Lions club sponsored the show before about 550 spectators.
Maquoketa stopped Manchester 12 to 0 in a Wamac contest Friday night. Scoring came in the second half on a Davis reception and a Satchel rushing run.
Reinbeck tops Ackley 26 to 13 in North Iowa SEC league play as Don Lorenzen fuels the win with a 72 yard touchdown and an 80 yard score. Lorenzen also contributed a key contribution as Reinbeck improves their league record.
New York results list Irish Bob Murphy 73 from San Diego and Dick Aener 166 from Toppenish. Duluth’s Gien Flanaga defeated Pat Iacobucci in St Paul. Hollywood’s Art Aragon stopped Chief Archie White in Los Angeles. Warry Math Thews halted Anton Raadik in Portland.
Argentina defeated the United States 64 to 50 to win the world amateur basketball championship as 25,000 fans packed Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires. Egypt beat Chile 43 to 40 and Brazil crushed France 59 to 27 in the final round. The US team, the Denver Chevrolets, totaled 14 free throws and 18 field goals amid 38 personal fouls.
Undefeated Valparaiso overwhelmed Luther 33 to 13 after a tight first half in Decorah. Luther led early as Orvie Jordahl scored from three yards, but Valparaiso answered with a late second quarter touchdown drive and multiple scores in the fourth. Ely Rapaich and Norm Arnold connected on several passes and runs, with Arnold adding two rushing scores and a late 30 yard TD pass to Rapaich to seal the game.
Grinnell freshman football overcome a halftime deficit to defeat Cornell 19 to 14 at Mount Vernon. rally featured a 42 yard pass from Barrie Gable to Bill Frei setting up a second score and an 80 yard run by Hager in the final period while Cornell replied with a 95 yard kickoff return by Paul Schneider.
MT VERNON Grinnell freshmen cross country defeated Cornell 24 to 31 as Campbell won the two mile in 11 26 02 for Grinnell followed by Shean Weaver and others. Cornell runners Yeater Barber Lawrence and Morris placed among the top finishers with Burgess and Sievers also scoring.
High school cage results show New London over West Branch 14 to 7 and Cascade St Marys routing R Oxford Junction 23 to 41. Ossian defeated by Morley 63 to 29. Waterville edged 8 to 62. Springdale beat Bennett 34 to 18.
St Cloud Teachers College defeated Upper Iowa University 31 to 13 at St. Cloud Friday night. Bill Campbell caught three touchdown passes to lead the Saints, while Laffoon scored Upper Iowa’s two TDs. Passes aided Upper Iowa’s drives as Schott added a 20 yard end sweep.
The annual high school basketball coaching school will be held at Iowa State during Christmas holidays. Davenport, winner of last spring’s state championship, is invited to play Abraham Lincoln of Council Bluffs in one game. The clinic is directed by the Iowa High School Athletic Association board of control and eight prep teams will be invited to participate.
West Chester clinched its second straight unbeaten season and the Ke-Wash conference title with a 14-13 win over Keota. Key moments included a 63 yard interception return, a late Keota touchdown, and a game deciding bad center snap in the final minute. Over 3,000 fans watched a tense finish as the wind affected punting and kept the outcome in doubt until the final gun.
High school grid results feature Mississippi Valley games with R. McKinley defeating C. R. Roosevelt 7–6, Monticello over Grundy Center 21, Mt. Vernon routing Winfield 52–0, and Keota crushing Richland 138–19 among many others. College and conference play includes Luther and Valparaiso, Western Illinois, and Missouri Valley matchups with several high-scoring outcomes across the region.
Oelwein defeated Osage 12 to 6 in a Northeast Iowa conference football game. Wayne Dudley scored on a 45 yard return after a blocked punt, while Rex Dudley caught a 4 yard pass for the early Oelwein score. Osage tied the game in the second period before the winning play. Jim Hollingsworth returned to form for the hosts.
Moline Illinois, one of the state’s top prep teams, routed Davenport High 39-0 in a Quad City conference game. Mike Ewing led the win with two rushing touchdowns, Mark Engdahl threw for two scores and Ray Pierson and Austin Duke added touchdowns as the 8th straight victory built on a 20-0 halftime lead.
