Seven Injured in Three Accidents Involving Local Candidates
Frank J. Novak, 49, failed candidate for public improvements commissioner, was among seven injured in three crashes Friday night and Saturday morning. Novak's lump head and chest injuries followed a collision with a semi on Sixteenth Avenue SW. A Ely man, Tom Haney, 41, had back injuries after his truck went into a ditch on a dirt road between Ely and Highway 218. A Marshalltown couple, George Belt, 41, and wife and two daughters, were hurt when their car left Highway 150 near Marion. Belt had facial injuries, wife a left shoulder fracture, daughter Wanda a possible arm fracture. Rita May were uninjured. Novak was cited for failure to yield. All were hospitalized.
