100 Year Old House On Clinton Street To Be Razed

A demolition crew is set to tear down the 100 year old 625 S Clinton Street house in Iowa City despite its potential eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places. Neighbors and bidders say the owner Larry Svoboda gave too little time to arrange financing or hire house movers, with Sue Weller the last prospective buyer after a price cut to 1000 dollars. Local experts note the Second Empire style and possible early central heating, making the loss of the structure significant to the community and historic preservation efforts.
