Five day temperatures to average 8 to 12 degrees above normal with mild readings through the week. Normal highs upper 40s to upper 50s, lows upper 20s to mid 30s. Rainfall around .25 inch in showers Tuesday and late week. Local notices include births, marriages, obituaries, fire calls, traffic fines, and service details for several Iowa towns.
The CAB reported Gonzales bought a revolver and ammunition on May 6, showed the weapon to friends, and said he planned to shoot himself or die May 6 or 7. He purchased insurance policies at the airport. The total insured value was $105,000. Witnesses saw him board the Reno to San Francisco flight in the evening with a small package containing the gun and ammunition, sitting in a front seat behind the pilot.

A Cedar Rapids man and two Marion youths were held on robbery and accessory charges after a Sunday early morning beating at a Cedar Rapids tavern. Donald Yanda charged with robbery. Clifford Yanda and Raymond Schwieger charged as accessories. Victim Ronald Sult sustained bruises and loss of clothing, watch, and wallet containing about $17. All three were arraigned in Linn District Court and remanded to jail in bonds of 1500 for Donald and 500 for each Clifford and Schwieger.
A racing pigeon named Pamela, missing after being blown off course by storms, was found by the crew of the Dutch destroyer Amsterdam during NATO exercises. After 780 miles and a hospital recovery, Pamela was returned to London plasterer Bill Bush, hailed as the bird's owner by naval officers.

Maude G. Fugate 225 Twenty-first Street NW Cedar Rapids resident for 34 years and widow of Jodie Fugate died Sunday after a long illness. Born February 24, 1885 in Brooklyn Illinois she is survived by son Herman Fugate daughter Mrs Frank Vollbracht five grandchildren thirteen great grandchildren three great great grandchildren three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at Turier chapel at 3 p.m. Tuesday conducted by Rev John Wheatley of Christ Church Presbyterian Burial Cedar Memorial Friends may call at the chapel until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. casket will not be opened after the service.
Freda Sinaiko, lifelong Cedar Rapids resident, died Monday after a brief illness. Born Sept. 13, 1902, in Cedar Rapids, she leaves a son in Los Angeles, three daughters in Massachusetts and California, seven grandchildren, and memberships in Temple Judah and the Woman's club. Private memorials will be held at Eben Israel cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with Rabbi Isaac Neuman officiating. The casket will not be opened at long time.
Jeffrey Allan LaGrange infant son of Mr and Mrs Alvin C LaGrange of 363 Second Avenue SW died Monday morning. Survived by parents a sister Linda and grandparents Earl Romig of Edgewood and Fred LaGrange of Cedar Rapids. Private services were held in Turner chapel Monday afternoon with cremation committal.
Memorial services for Maryee Landis will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Chapel in Cuba Illinois. Burial will follow in Cuba Illinois. Friends may call at Turner Chapel until 9 p.m. Monday.

CAPE KENNEDY AP reports the Soviet Union has failed 17 straight Mars Venus and moon probes while the United States plans two Mariner spacecraft on eight month voyages to Mars. Mariner 3 and 4 could reach the planet in about 250 days, with each craft weighing 570 pounds and carrying a TV camera and instruments for 30 minute close approaches, amid broader space race tensions and data on life possibilities.
In Charleroi Belgium AP reports Konstantin Rudnev touring Soviet scientific head viewed an oil portrait of Brigitte Bardot by Dutch painter Kees van Dongen at an exhibition. Rudnev reportedly said she is much better in the painting than in real life and declined to confirm a Moscow meeting during Bardot’s Babette Goes to War promotion.

Ralph V. Post, 50, of Monmouth, was jailed 60 days after pleading guilty to intoxication and petty larceny. He allegedly stole a ladies purse worth $5 from J C Penney on Saturday. Judge Loren Hullinger Jr. imposed 30 days on each charge.

Catharine Warner of Cedar Rapids filed in Linn district court a case against Regina Lancaster for 14750 alleging a neighbor’s wire stretched across a snow covered path caused Warner to trip on November 10 1962 at 7 pm. Warner says the fall resulted in permanent back and spinal injuries and bruises.
William V. Hupp, 50, of 167 Sixteenth Avenue SW, Mon day, received a six month suspended sentence from Judge Charles Penningroth after pleading guilty to false uttering of a check. Sentencing was postponed pending a pre sentence investigation and restitution of about 70 dollars for four bogus checks.
Lt. Gen. Charles B. Duff of the Army Air Defense Command says studies on Nike-X anti-missile tech show engineering feasibility but warn the project would cost 15 to 20 billion dollars to develop and deploy. He notes a complex radar could tell actual warheads from decoys, while current knowledge covers the engineering hurdles. Duff spoke before the La Jolla chapter of the Military Order of World Wars last week.

Four members of a Cedar Rapids family escaped injury in a three car accident on the southwest side Saturday night. Gerald O. Johnson and his wife Carole, driving separate cars on Sixteenth Avenue SW, were struck after a car running a red light hit Mrs. Johnson, then Mr. Johnson. The Johnsons were with two young children. The third car’s driver fled the scene and Buck N. Tyler of 130 Twenty-sixth Street SE was later arrested for leaving the scene. Tyler pled guilty in municipal court and received 30 days in jail.
DES MOINES UPI All ballots cast in the general election must be counted at each precinct and reported to county auditors as quickly as possible. Secretary of State Melvin Synhorst said he sent letters urging precinct judges and clerks to count votes immediately after polls close and relay totals by phone, telegraph, or in person to the county auditor. He reminded candidates to file campaign receipts and expenses within 30 days.
