Rites Tuesday for William Meeks 78
William B. Meeks 78 a prominent retired Jones county farmer died Sunday in a Cedar Rapids hospital. He was the first president of the Maquoketa Valley Rural Electric Cooperative of Anamosa and a past president of the Jones County Farm Bureau. He served on the boards of the Martelle Cooperative Elevator and Linn Cooperative Oil Co and lived in Martelle since 1939. Surviving are his wife and two sons Merle and Don. Services are Tuesday at 2 in the Goettsch chapel Anamosa.

Bodies of 4 Missing Iowa Men Are Found
Four Iowa men missing since their plane vanished August 21 were found in crash wreckage near Cloverton Minnesota. Pilot Lloyd Boofer of Elma and passengers Leland Chester William Schneider and Fred Wegner of Colwell were aboard the aircraft that departed Charles City Iowa for St Ignace Ontario for a fishing weekend. The crash occurred after stops at Lake Elmo Minnesota and Siren Wisconsin and a distress stop at 11 a.m. Watches on two men stopped at 11:15.

Mother of Three Killed in Crash Near Cresco
A two car collision eight miles northwest of here in Howard County left a mother of three dead. Mrs Corwin Goodman was 29 and died Monday at Cresco hospital. Her husband 33 and their children Allen four Michael two and Marie one survived, along with Virginia Lee 38 of Lime Springs the other driver who were in good condition. Mrs Goodman's body was taken to Zuchow funeral home in Lime Springs.

Farm Worker Dies in Farm House Fire Near Estherville
Richard Johnson aged 29 from Dolivett perished in a Saturday night blaze at the Wayne West farm house near Estherville. The Wests were away for the weekend and Johnson had been hired to stay on the farm. Cause of the fire remains undetermined.

College Testing Program Aims to Assess New ACT Results
More than 82,000 high school seniors on 325 campuses in 14 states will take the new American College Testing program this Saturday. Tests cover English math social studies and natural sciences to determine college admission and scholarship eligibility. ACT scoring is handled by two high speed electronic machines at the University of Iowa providing rapid individual and school reports. The Iowa City center includes the University of Iowa and nearby Cedar Rapids Decorah Fayette Mt. Vernon and other sites with listed schools and coordinators.

Anna Leonard 81 widow of Joseph Leonard died last weekend at her daughter’s home in Huntington Indiana. The body returns to Witt funeral home for calling after 8 am Tuesday and Witt chapel services at 2 pm Tuesday. She lived in Elkader before moving nine years ago to Huntington to live with her daughter. Her husband died in 1925 and they owned a local creamery. Surviving are a brother Frank Wacker of Elkader and three sisters including Miss Elizabeth Wacker of Cedar Rapids.
