In Jellison’s car Muriel Raridon 20 and Jerry Plotz 21 were present. Plotz faced intoxication charges. Plotz and Jellison were intoxicated at arrest. A gallon jug wine and broken bottles were found. Jellison was fined $100 and costs. Wehde and Jellison were jailed pending disposition.

Allen F. Wheeler 24 of Flint Mich formerly of Cedar Rapids and Benton County died shortly after 1 30 a m Sunday when his car carrying his wife crashed into the Abbey Creek bridge railing two miles west of Mount Vernon on Highway 30. Wheeler was driving and his abdomen was pierced by the bridge iron as the car crossed the guard post and railing before stopping crosswise in the roadway. The wife, Lois Nelson of Marengo, reported the speed about fifty mph and heard a cry just before impact as the curve approached the bridge. The wreck occurred while en route to Independence to visit the wife s mother. The accident remains under Sheriff James H Smith and Dr B L Knight coroner investigation.
