Iowa lawsuit challenges Pates voting list and seeks relief

The suit argues Pates order infringes the plaintiffs right to vote and due process and seeks to halt the order with immediate relief. A hearing is set for 2 p.m. at the federal courthouse in Des Moines. Plaintiffs Orcan Selcuk and Alan David Gwilliam spoke at a virtual news conference, noting their names appear on the Secretary of State list and that provisional ballots were requested. Selcuk, a Turkish-born Lu ther College professor who became a citizen in 2023, says the county auditor notice was confusing and may deter other naturalized citizens from voting.
