New look for State Theatre delays 175th anniversary plans
Washington Iowa locals watch a 1893 built State Theatre regain 1942 styling after extensive renovations led by manager Dick Shepherd and owner Fridley Theaters. Fire damage in 2010 spurred upgrades including electrical rewiring, tile floor, fewer aisles, modern seating, balcony rebuild, digital projection, and Dolby 7.1 sound, with exterior work postponed to finish late due to weather and surprises.
