Dairy Farmers and Retail Prices Narrow Share Says Iowa Candidate
Dairy prices rise do not lift farmer earnings. Francis Thicke of Fairfield, who seeks Iowa secretary of agriculture in 2010, says off farm costs account for 80 percent of food dollars and dairy farmers get a shrinking share as store prices fall or rise. He cites 2009 prices for bacon, bread, cereal, cheese, eggs, milk and other items to illustrate the gap. Contact the writer for details.
