After a three day summit in Williamsburg Virginia seven industrial democracies declare signs of recovery though they call for further steps to cut trade barriers lower inflation and reduce deficits. They back convergence of policies and a possible future international monetary reform conference in a Williamsburg Declaration and Annex.
A brief note discusses child spacing as a key to happier families. It suggests maintaining about ten feet between children as a guideline for orderly and balanced households.
Urban climber Dan Goodwin scaled the 110 story North tower, reached the 80th floor, and, after a defective track fragment and a broken claw, accepted police help. Officers Seaberg and Toth lowered him to safety on a window washers scaffold as about 300 onlookers watched.
A 15 foot wall of water and mud roared down Slide Mountain near Reno injuring several and killing a pastor identified as Joseph Valenzuela. The slide buried homes and vehicles, sent debris across fields, and left authorities fearing missing ranch hands and others.
A large blast at an illegally operated fireworks workshop in Magdalena del Mar, Lima, killed six people and injured 15. The explosion destroyed the building, shattered windows 300 feet away, and sent three bodies onto the street. Firefighters worked over four hours to recover victims.
