Iowa counties raise multiple fees under new law
The Iowa Legislature passed a measure increasing county fees effective last Thursday. Linn County records official Pat Kane notes short notice and lack of affected public notification. Increases include boat and snowmobile registrations from 50 cents to 1 dollar, trade name filings from 2 to 3 dollars, sheriff service fees from 3 to 6 dollars, household paper service from 1 to 3 dollars, and deed transfer title costs from 1 to 5 dollars with a 3 dollar per page recording fee unchanged.

May wins appeal on 11 counts in aircraft case
The 8th U.S. Circuit Court upheld May's conviction on four counts of unauthorized use of military aircraft and reversed the other seven. The court ordered a new trial possible on remand and noted improper jury instruction about personal use.
