PHOTO FACTS OLON Lake Macbride shop builds park furniture
In a well equipped carpenter shop at Lake Macbride state park, Roy Reed’s crew and Harold Slach produce almost all furniture and many signs for about 80 Iowa Conservation Commission properties. They turn out nearly 100 picnic tables a month and arm chairs for cabins, saving roughly $10 per table. The shop operates 44 hours weekly, uses patterns for mass production, and sources much lumber from park areas.

Prague officials accuse a US fund drive for Lidice of misdirection claiming five million dollars raised, with 30 percent to collectors and 70 percent to administration. Jan Vodicka, secretary general of the Union of Fighters for Freedom, says no funds reached the Lidice cause. A New York delegate notes Lidice Memorial Committee raised only five thousand dollars and claims Communist authorities blocked allocating any funds.
