Study links more RN care to lower patient deaths
Researchers from Harvard and Vanderbilt report in NEJM that hospitals with higher RN staffing saved more lives among 6.2 million patients in 1997 across 799 hospitals in 11 states. The study compared top and bottom quartiles of RN care and details hours supplied by RNs LPNs and aides.

Insulin injections fail to prevent type 1 diabetes
Boston AP reports a landmark NIH funded study found preventive insulin injections do not stop type 1 diabetes. Of 84,228 screened, 339 with high five year risk were assigned to insulin or monitoring. both groups showed about 15 percent annual diabetes development.
