Des Moines Man Leo Ward Sentenced for Breaking and Entering
Leo F. Ward, 151, of Des Moines, was sentenced to five years in the State penitentiary at Fort Madison for breaking and entering. Judge Vernon Johnson handed down the sentence in Red Oak after Ward was accused of burglarizing Cliff Arends’ Red Oak residence last December. He was reportedly beaten by Arends during the theft, requiring extensive dental work. Ward had escaped from Montgomery County Jail in January and was recaptured in St. Joseph, Missouri, on a petty larceny charge.
