Iowa unlikely to get drought relief

Iowa's drought relief application likely won't be approved unless conditions worsen significantly. T. J. Edmonds, regional FERA administrator, said Iowa would be handled through the agricultural program, with relief for Dakota and Minnesota regions under other plans. He noted possible emergency and secondary county designations and outlined a four point rural relief program involving feed supplies, corn loans for feed, forage seed, and forage land planting. In St. Paul talks, officials plan tentative Iowa rural rehabilitation measures to provide immediate relief and prevent future need. A separate Sioux City report notes a rain shower after prayers at St Thomas Syrian Orthodox church, though crops still need more rain.
