Preservationists urge caution on Knutson Building demolition
Cedar Rapids preservationists urged the City Council to reject demolition of the 128 year old Knutson Building. The Historic Preservation Commission voted to hire an engineer to assess structural integrity and costs before renovating, mothballing, or demolishing the city owned site near the Cedar River across from downtown. The council previously bought the building in 2012 for 1.5 million to clear the site for an amphitheater.
