Two Injured After Collision With Streets Sweeper
Mary Peck 71 and Karen Hawthorn 52 of Central City were taken to St Luke s Hospital Cedar Rapids with non life threatening injuries after Peck s car struck a westbound Linn County streets sweeper near Central City Road and Sutton Road. Joseph Hawthorn 49 and Jeffrey Frasher 54 were not hurt.

A fire at Alter Metal Recycling on 11th St SW Cedar Rapids started about 9:30 a.m. Firefighters fought for six hours amid a 50 by 25 yard pile of scrap including appliances and vehicles using a crane to access hotspots. Air monitors detected no immediate health threat and investigators cited undetermined origin.
