Parents protest budget cuts at Iowa Braille School

Three Vinton and area parents urge the Iowa Board of Regents to review budget cuts at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School. Reflective Tribute memorial honors Upper Iowa WWII student Benecke

A memorial garden at Upper Iowa University will dedicate two statues of James Benecke, a World War II victim and friend of benefactor Stan Lee. One statue in military dress faces a relief showing Benecke in UIU football gear, modeled by a 1940 Lee photo. The project, called Reflective Tribute, includes a wall with Benecke’s football image and a plaque listing local WWII casualties.
