Retailers oppose new credit laws as costly burdens
Washington retailers accuse the new sex based credit discrimination rules of being impractical and expensive. Dexter Gould of the American Retail Federation says small merchants may drop in house credit plans, favoring bank cards or costly lawsuits. Sears Roebuck estimates costs over 166 million dollars, potentially raising prices. A compromise would credit accounts in both names and allow borrowers to request statements after loan refusals, but reactions vary among creditors and women's groups.
