Serious Grain Transportation Problems Continue In Iowa

Iowa grain transportation problems are expected to persist as elevators try to move about 50 million bushels more than capacity. Analysts Phil Baumel and Bob Wisner estimate capacity for April through September, with new cars and peak barge activity aiding but not fully closing the gap. They warn a sharp rise in out-of-state shipments and a large carryover could strain a system already near full capacity. They note 278 million bushels of corn remain under price support loans, and suggest steps for elevator operators to ease pressures.
