Washington OPS officials said a delayed 10 percent rollback in cattle prices will apply to all packinghouses on Friday under a revised regulation to end price-clarity issues. The move follows a May 20 start and aims to restore wholesaler and retailer margins after rising live stock costs.

Mills Herd Tops Linn DHIA May Report

The Wallace Mills herd of Coggan led Linn DHIA for May with an average of 60.4 pounds butterfat. Other top averages included Eastern Iowa Artificial Breeding Association 50.1 and individuals Fay Bickel 46.1, Fred Schenke 42.7, Covert Goodlove 41.7, Daniel Rogers 40.9, and Philip Hand 40.2. C. A. Claypool reported 909 pounds milk and 36.3 pounds butterfat from 432 cows, 54 dry. The high cow was a Holstein owned by the Eastern Iowa Artificial Breeding Association with 102.1 pounds butterfat and 2,220 pounds milk.

Aikman Receives Honorary Degree at Wesleyan Commencement

Dr. John M. Aikman Iowa State botany professor was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science by Nebraska Wesleyan University during the 62nd annual commencement. He earned his bachelor and Master of Arts at Wesleyan and has taught at Iowa State since 1927 while serving on several campus bodies and Iowa Interchurch Council.

Norden Farm at Dysart Sells for 400 Per Acre

The 160 acre Elise Norden farm two miles west of Dysart sold Monday to Art and Ike Fink of Traer for about 400 dollars an acre. Mrs Norden bought it in 1937 with tenant Ed Schnell. the sale was arranged by Walter Moeller, a Dysart Traer broker, as an investment.
