Agreement Reached in a Conference on Tax Cuts
House and Senate conferees signaled a quick final form for sweeping personal income tax reductions effective July 1. The compromise would grant a 20 percent cut for incomes up to 13,000 and 15 percent for the next slice to 303,000, with a 500 exemption for those 65 and older. The plan awaits passage in both chambers and a possible presidential action. Senate votes edged toward approval despite two-thirds hurdle, with Iowa’s Wilson and Hickenlooper backing the measure.
