Iowa Supreme Court narrows teen life sentences in murder case

The Iowa Supreme Court, in a 4-3 decision, voided life without parole for a teen killer, saying rehabilitation and parole chances after maturation must be considered. Isaiah Sweet, 17 at the time, killed his grandparents in Manchester in 2012 and had been sentenced to life without parole.

Explosion at Hawkeye Drive complex claims a life in Iowa City

A Friday explosion at the Hawkeye Drive apartment complex in Iowa City killed one person. UI Police and Iowa City Fire responded around 4:30 p.m. with investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office assisting. Most residents returned home Friday evening while the victim's name was withheld pending notification.
