Tacoma AP report says at least three men and a woman are sought in the George Weyerhaeuser kidnapping as parents push for negotiations on a 200000 ransom. A high police official says a woman wrote the ransom note and radicals are among suspects amid timber strike turmoil.
A firm request by George Weyerhaeuser’s parents to federal agents to cease interference followed a late Monday report that his kidnappers had made contact. The 9-year-old victim’s abduction is alleged to be a $200,000 plot, with prominence given to the family’s stance and federal involvement.
In Tacoma a ransom deadline loomed as George Wey erhaeuser’s parents sought a new contact method after a prior fails. A Seattle newspaper printed what claimed to be the ransom note, detailing payment in specific bills and warning against slips. The Weyerhaeuser family gathered at their mansion as authorities pressed for contact.
