The North Liberty Unity Coalition launches a free summer lunch program for children from June 9 to August 18, five days a week. The initiative, started in 2005, seeks to provide nutritious meals and activities for about 550 local kids who qualify for free or reduced-price lunches, operating without federal funding.
The North Liberty Unity Coalition calls for donations and volunteers to run a summer lunch program for youths 18 and under. Organizer Tracey Mulcahey notes meals start at 11:30 a.m. with an hour of activities to follow, aided by local city services, the library, and the community center. Volunteering to serve meals or supervise is requested, with about 5000 dollars needed for the season and 2500 raised so far.
