Tape Word After Jet Crash Cites Cockpit Loss

CHICAGO AP Almost all cockpit conversations aboard the ill fated American Airlines jet were wiped out by a power loss leaving only the word damn on tape. The death toll rose to 273 with two ground victims. Investigators expect at least two months to determine cause.

Sacramento Engineer Sacrifices Standby Seat on Flight 191

Glenn Nichols, a 34 year old Sacramento engineer, swapped his standby seat on American Flight 191 to help a frightened woman, saving his life as the doomed flight’s fate unfolded. Nichols had planned to fly 561 to Los Angeles and return home after a Lisle training session. His colleague A J Costello from Los Angeles invited him to drink and possibly fly home after.
